You HAVE to be aware of these 5 mistakes when using ChatGPT
Everyone is using it and most people are raving about “how AI tools like ChatGPT will change everything”. But there aren’t many people talking about what can go wrong when using such tools.
Today I want to shed some light on five mistakes content writers should avoid when using ChatGPT. Let’s dive in and up our content creation game!
1️⃣ Blindly Relying on ChatGPT
Don’t get me wrong: ChatGPT can be a powerful tool when used properly. But it’s important to remember that it’s just that. A tool. It can mix up facts, it can’t account for anything that happens after September 2021, and sometimes it’s just plain wrong.
When using ChatGPT, we should use it creatively. Like writing content “before AI took over”. Let ChatGPT help you with content creation, but add your personal touch.
2️⃣ Neglecting Fact Checking
FACT CHECK the output the AI gives you. I’ll say this again for the people in the back: Fact-check the output. Period. AI chatbots are not reliable. Yes, many times the output is correct, but as I said, there are many times when it’s not.
AI models learn from large data sets, but they can still produce biased content and present outdated information. It’s your job as a content writer to make sure the information you’re publishing is accurate. Especially with sensitive topics like the infamous YMYL topics, i.e. financial or health content.
3️⃣ Ignoring the need for context
ChatGPT generates responses based on the input it receives. It lacks contextual understanding, which can lead to misinterpretations. Be very clear in your instructions, provide all necessary background information, and clarify context to get better results. Precision when prompting is key!
4️⃣ Ignoring the voice of your audience
What I find very difficult when using ChatGPT is getting output exactly how I need it. ChatGPT can give you a text on any topic in seconds, but fine-tuning the content to specifically target your audience is very difficult and time consuming. And isn’t using AI all about efficiency?
Edit ChatGPT’s output to match your CI and the tone of voice that appeals to your audience. Understanding your audience is key.
5️⃣ Lack of review and editing
Always review, edit, and polish content to ensure it meets your standards and effectively conveys the intended message. Some things, like finesse, can only be added by humans.
So let’s use ChatGPT as the tool it is and not fall into the “AI will take over everything” trap. It won’t. But staying up to date means being open to experimenting with new tools and seeing how they can make you more efficient on a case-by-case basis. Don’t replace yourself with AI, but use it as a valuable asset in your content creation process.
